Dante's View in Death Valley is a popular lookout. It looks down some 5575 ft onto the the recently flooded Badwater Basin below.
One of the techniques taught in travel-photo courses is to take a moment when arriving at a site to pause without your camera -- a moment to take in the mood / feeling / atmosphere of the place, and decide how you'd like to capture it.
So I figured given that it was Dante's view and Death Valley and all that, that I'd try to capture sort of a beautiful hellish view: the red mountains, the cool beach / salts, the shallow lake reflecting the clouds.
Anyway, I like the way that looking down on the the rocky ridge looks like looking up at a mountain with a funky sky behind. I troubles the eye. I saturated the colours a bit more of a fire-and-ice effect.
If you look really closely, you can see lost souls wandering the shallow water.
