Détruit, le château du 11ème siècle est reconstruit au 15ème siècle par Geoffroy Helie de Pompadour, puis est remanié au 18ème siècle, lorsque le roi Louis XV l'a offert à sa maîtresse, la marquise de Pompadour, en 1745. Celle-ci n'y résida pas, mais y favorisa l'élevage de chevaux et créa le Haras de Pompadour en 1760.

Pompadour Castle, 15th and 18th century, registered MH (French National heritage) in 1926.
This 11th century castle was rebuilt in the 15th century by Geoffroy Helie de Pompadour, then was redesigned in the 18th century, when King Louis XV offered it to his mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour, in 1745. She did not live there, but favoured the breeding of horses and created the Pompadour Stud in 1760.
