My five letter word is BEVEL.
Google's definition of bevel;
noun - A slope from the horizontal or vertical in carpentry and stonework; a sloping surface or edge. "A very small 45° bevel is ground on the top surface"
A corner bevel is an important feature on any machined part. It can be there for a variety of reasons. Rarely did I ever make a part that required a sharp corner.
