The first municipal merchant's hall as a building of the municipal market administration for the handling of goods and customs in Freiburg was built in the 14th century in the Schusterstraße, the first mention dates back to 1378.
From 1520 onwards, the current building facing the Münsterplatz with a view of the Freiburg Minster was built north of the Old Merchant's Hall. The completion of construction of the "New Merchant's Hall" is dated 1532.
