Small and vividly colorful resident birds sighted throughout the year in our region. This is a female and is often seen in the presence of a male. I don't know if they are mated for life, but smaller birds tend to have many partners over the years and assume the same. The males are quite colorful with a bright reddish orange plumage while the females are a bit dull brown and white. They prefer insects and caterpillars and are often sighted hunting for them. These are social birds often seen in groups of half a dozen or more.
