Equestrian statue of D. Pedro I, was inaugurated in 1862. It was made to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil, in his hand he waves the constitution. Around the pedestal are statues representing the four major national rivers - Amazonas, Parana, Madeira and Sao Francisco. In the allegories are indigenous figures and various species of animals.
