IMG_20190213_152946_197 This photo is taken from the top floor roof garden of Tūranga, my.christchurchcitylibraries.com/turanga/ the new, beautiful library which overlooks Cathedral Square in Christchurch. You can see the still see the broken remnants of the cathedral that was damaged beyond repair in the Feb 2011 earthquake. In the previous October, I stood in a hotel room which is pretty much where I was standing to take this photo, talking to Nigel on the phone, when I experienced my first earthquake. It was one of the aftershocks from the September earthquake that hit the city in 2010. That hotel was destroyed in the Feb earthquake. The new library is beautiful and a real testament and symbol to the creative, if slow, visioning to rebuild a city out of disaster.
