While exploring the "ord" end of the Black Isle, I happened across this ruined "but and ben" which lies jutting out into a large ploughed field. Clearly it has been some time - centuries - since it last heard the laughter of a child or the sound of a parent singing a lullaby. Just looking at it brought a lump to my throat, and left me thinking what became of its builders and subsequent tenants. Clearly farming overtook it, as fields grew larger and it became uneconomic and unviable for small-holders to eke a livng and support a family. There are actually two houses, close to each other, one of which I zoomed in on ,and then approaching from another road (albeit in failing light) I got another angle - especially of the tree growing up inside.
