The cathedra (bishop's throne, in this case, an archbishop's…) of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, in St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, CA. The red seat flanking the cathedra is for the serving altar boy/man, (or con-celebrating priest...) there's another hidden behind the cathedra. Taken by a Voigtländer Bessa R4M with a Heliar 75mm ƒ 1.8 lens on Fujicolor Superia 400 film.
A rare 75mm shot (on 35mm film - I'm not counting medium-format shots!) for me, the lens rarely leaves the camera bag, as it doesn't have enuf "reach" to be worth changing (over a 50mm or 40mm), most of the time. The flaring/light-spilling is from a dirty filter...
If I go into a cathedral, I do try to get a shot of the cathedra - but sometimes it isn't possible: it's either too far away (for one of my lenses with a reasonably wide ƒ-stop - not my birding telephotos!...) from a non-sanctuary and/or public viewing point, or out of view altogether. (In the back of the Choir in a Gothic cathedral, for example...) If I happen to be there during a mass or other rite, I don't even try to get a shot, so as not to interrupt the service...
