Late at night and buzzing from walking around with my friends, enjoying some good food, good beer and great company the conversation moved to wondering how possible it would be to make portraits using nothing but the light from a shop window.
Much as I love to talk, I prefer action...so I immediately set myself into stranger mode and within a minute had sourced a wonderful girl to create a project.
Maggie is from Poland and not only did she very quickly agree to have her photograph taken but she was also very interested in what the images were for what sorts of pictures I took so I had a good chance to tell her about my street portraits and explain my idea of making a portrait using the shop window light.
I used the lights from Banana Republic in Regent Street, London to create this and was surprisingly pleased with the result. I wished I had shot in RAW to gibe myself more control in post over the WB but it certainly wasn't a deal breaker. Although this image is very different in terms of light than my usual portraits I wanted to ensure I included it as it was a great learning experience for me and one again opens a whole new concept of street portraits.
